Portrait of Richard Ruoro

About

The Rare Combination of Infrastructure, Product, and Strategy.

Richard Ruoro has spent more than twenty-five years helping organisations navigate technology change. His career began in the foundational layers of digital infrastructure and telecommunications before expanding into platform development, cloud technologies, mobile ecosystems, and artificial intelligence.

Unlike specialists who focus on a single discipline, Richard operates across three interconnected domains — infrastructure, product innovation, and technology strategy — letting him see technology from technical, operational, commercial, and regulatory viewpoints at once.

Today he helps organisations build AI-powered products, digital platforms, transformation initiatives, and innovation strategies designed for real-world adoption.

Professional evolution

Four eras of technology — built across all of them.

Infrastructure, web, cloud & mobile, and now AI — a 25-year arc, not a pivot.

  1. Era 01 · 2000s

    Digital Infrastructure & Telecommunications

Built the foundational communication systems and enterprise messaging infrastructure behind early African digital services — Sasanet's free-SMS platform, the Katiba (Committee of Experts) constitutional-education campaign that reached Kenyans nationwide, and bulk-SMS routing at Global Message Company.

  2. Era 02 · 2010s

    Web Platforms & Digital Services

Portals, marketplaces, member platforms and business applications — the layer where the web stopped being a brochure and became how organisations actually ran.

    • Marketplaces
    • Business applications
  3. Era 03 · Late 2010s

    Cloud, Mobile & Automation

Scalable cloud-native systems and mobile-first products. Workflows replaced spreadsheets; automation became a competitive moat.
